10. StayHere we have the album which shot Madonna to stardom way back in the early 1980’s. Little did she know how popular she would become and at this point being a small town girl down on her luck I wonder if she realized just what the effect would be of this album.
Strangely the vast majority of the tracks were pretty ordinary and as such the album could have died a death before it was ever released.
However the era it was released in was an era crying out for strong young girls/ women to entertain the masses with something new. In themselves the tracks were not particularly new but the with the age of video having just been born we were treated to the likes of what had never been shown before.
No doubting that Madonna’s evocative charm wowed the many male admirers she soon had following her every move, but at the same time she portrayed a strong image of a women in control to the female fans as well. All in all it led to her being able to please all quarters of the viewing public.
Of the album itself perhaps the release of Like a virgin had the most influence in creating fanatical popularity for the person who created risqué indeed embodies risqué even today many years later. Her subject choices proved extremely popular to the young generation and soon she had audiences craving for more.
Following in the success of Like a virgin, material girl and into the groove followed soon after. Again with creative videos to accompany them the singles soon made Madonna an instant hit and gave her a firm base as being one of only a few artists to mesmerize audiences for generations.
The other tracks on the album although not as popular were greeted warmly as being worthy inclusions and gave some respite from the energy filled trio of hit singles that adorned the album. Indeed looking back at the listing of tracks I find myself like most people who lived through that period being able to remeber a scary amount of lyrics from all of the lesser known tracks which I guess is what made the album so popular to begin with.
