Having shot to overnight success with her Like a virgin album early in the eighties Madonna produced the album Like A Prayer to help finish her work in the 80's and cement her name and reputation for the forthcoming decade…and beyond!

Like A Prayer was and still is seen by many to be the first of the best of her albums. Combining her vocal talents and that of her desire to explore controversial topics and her willingness to take the world of pop video to new levels she combined them all to produce a fantastic experience to delight our ears.

It was probably at this time that she also became quite disliked by parents and religious leaders around the globe when the title track dealt with many of the hoodoo topics of the time and not being content with just the vocal assault on certain groups in society she also performed to that audience in an equally controversial and evocative style in the accompanying video.

With the benefit of hindsight the album was ground breaking in many areas and at that time only Madonna could have carried it of successfully and come out the other side to continue her career and become one of the most respected female vocalist of our time.

Although the album is remembered as being highly controversial at the time it also contained many good tracks which went on to be very popular amongst the audiences and to my mind at least two went on to do very well in the singles charts and also be included in movies.

Not bad for an album that some people would have wanted to see being burned in piles in the streets.
