Lay Your Hands On Me New Jersey followed in the footsteps of many albums produced by bands and soloists after they had had a once in a lifetime success with an album and find themselves needing to follow it with another.
Unfortunately this was the album that had the unenviable task of doing just that. New Jersey followed in the footsteps of Slippery when Wet which had sold a modest 12 million plus copies around the world and propelled the band onto the world stage in big style. It took a while for them to offer the album and no doubt all concerned were nervous of the reaction from fans and critics. After listening to the first two tracks of this album you will realise that they shouldn’t have been worried as they had once again produced an album fit for the collection of every rocker in the whole wide world. Lay your hands on me gives a very good insight into how the album will generated energy and enthuse excitement as the tracks follow each other. Bad medicine follows and no let up in the rhythm and guitars. Finally taking pity on the listener and giving them time to relax and realise that they are the owner of one fantastic album they offer born to be my baby before launching into a full on assault of pure rock. What distinguishes New Jersey from ordinary rock albums is that the tracks are all very strong indeed many have the title of anthems they are so popular. The album certainly gives a very good indication of what Bon Jovi are all about and would make a very good first purchase for someone who knows little or nothing about them.
Recommending a track really is a case of being spoiled for choice but one which hasn’t been mentioned so far is Blood on Blood one of the slower tracks but that does not diminish the quality of the track and that is what the whole album provides, quality! |
