I hadn't bought a Magnum record for many years. Goodnight LA was I think the last album I bought and was pretty much disappointed with the way Magnum were heading. Leaning far too heavily towards an American market and moving away from their roots which were medium sized fan bases around the UK I became disillusioned with the approach and forgot about them.

Like many groups across the decades they seemed to have achieved their peak very early in the form of A Storytellers Night and from there they had only one direction to go and by Goodnight LA they were in free fall.

However give credit to Tony and Bob and the rest of the group they have risen to the challenge of getting back to producing what Magnum does best.

There is no doubt that Magnum has it’s place amongst the best in what Britain has to offer in progressive rock and with this album they have reaffirmed my belief and I hope the belief of many of their fans that Magnum can still produce the goods.

What a shame this album could not have followed Storyteller as it would surely have placed the band in the mainstream of popular rock bands, instead they have had to settle for one of the also-rans for way to long.
The tracks themselves I would like to imagine will become Magnum classics just like the tracks of old such as ‘Vigilante’ and ‘Kingdom of Madness‘. From my first few listening the tracks really are that good and they seem to be amongst that group of tracks which get better each time you listen to them.

If I had to choose one track from the album for people to sample what Magnum are all about I would probably go with ‘When We Were Younger’ a great track and the title is so pertinent these days.
What more is there to say other than go buy this album you will no be disappointed!
