Have to start by saying that I am really a great fan of Ryan Adams. Not saying I dislike him or his works but I just always find other people to listen to over him. Perhaps this may be to do with his name as I bet I am not the only one who has Bryan Adams springing to mind every time Ryan is mentioned?

With that said I guess 3 popular albums in the space of a little over 12 months is some going and to keep his fan base interested throughout the 3 albums is an even better feat. There must be something special about him if he can produce good quality tracks in such a short space of time and with this in mind I bought Easy Tiger wishing to find out how impressive the guy actually is. After an 18 month break from recording albums did he have what it takes to interest me and his long waiting fans?

Best album since? Is something I have read about consistently in reviews I have read prior to listening to the album and I guess that for some I can see why this is so but I think arguments will rage amongst his dedicated fans as to whether it actually is or not.
Sure the tracks are exactly what you would expect even after a lengthy break but that is the whole point. There is nothing really different about this album that you cannot find in abundance in his other albums. I had expected to see a refreshed new offering and although it was alright as an album that is all it was, fine. Nothing more nothing less.

In some respects he may even be seen to have taken a backwards step on this album as there just was no innovation or moving forward that I could see. Perhaps the album is one of those entities known as a grower, but after listening through the album a few times I really didn't feel as if I needed to revisit it any more. I would be very interested to hear what Ryan Adams fans themselves think as it is they who have waited for the album after a few years of regular offerings. Perhaps they will see the improvements that I cannot or maybe they will find that the album doesn't really take them anywhere they haven't been before with Ryan.
Only time will tell.

Grows on you..., Tuesday, 11 September 2007

I have only recently become a Ryan Adams fan, and have to admit that this album took some time to get into. On the first few listens I felt much like the reviewer above in the main article. I gave it some time, and I ended up enjoying it immensely. True, it's not really a radical departure from the last album (changing his musical style between albums has been fairly easy for Ryan). However, this does not result in a bad album by any means. The album opener is a great introduction to a Ryan Adams circa 1965. The album continues on to deliver great, "sad bastard" songs that we'd expect from the artist. If you are a Ryan fan, I believe you will thoroughly enjoy this album if you give it time.

And a note to the original reviewer: The track "Nobody Listens to Silence" is a bonus track, and not included on the album itself.
